General FAQ'S

  • All the classes available are listed on the Parent Portal
  • Class listing changes often as parents change and drop classes, you will need to check the Parent Portal for up to date class offerings .
Sure! Both children must be safe swimmers or graduates of Survival. Each student will be charged for one 15 min class.
  • Your child should wear a swimsuit (competition suits preferred instead of baggy shorts, string bikinis)
  • Bring at least one towel.
  • You may bring goggles to your stroke classes, or we have some available. (goggles are not allowed in Survival classes)
  • Students under age 3 and under (even if they are potty trained) or until they’ve been trained for at least 1 year must wear two swim non disposable diapers at every lesson.
  • If a fecal incident occurs in the pool, the entire pool must be closed and all lessons cancelled.
  • A fee will be applied if a fecal contamination incident is caused by your child when you are not following the double diaper policy.
  • Payment is due on the 16th before classes start, and credit cards will be processed on the 16th before classes start.
  • There will be a $25.00 late fee for non-payment on the 16th.
  • PhD Swim School reserves the right to refuse services and/or deactivate your Parent Portal Account if payment is not received

Make Up FAQ'S

  • Make-up lessons are not possible due to the high demand for our classes and our daily class schedule.
  • This includes all student absences including vacations, illnesses, recitals, etc.
  • Students also may not swap with other absent students in order to maintain teacher consistency.
  • The last week of the session will be used to schedule makeups for all affected students if lessons are canceled due to inclement weather, pool closing, or instructor emergency. Refunds will not be issued.
  • In fairness to all children, students who are late will receive an abbreviated lesson.
  • It’s a good idea to arrive 10 minutes early to allow your child to use the restroom and get ready for their lesson.

Medical FAQ

  • A student with a known medical condition must have a signed medical release from the student’s physician prior to the first day of class
  • Ear infections are a common reason why children are restricted from participating in swimming lessons. Since medical professionals have different opinions about swimming, ear infections, and tubes, please consult with your physician.
  • For the health of all children, it is recommended by pediatricians and other doctors that children with a fever, rash or any other symptom of an infection NOT participate in an aquatic program.
  • Student participation will be restricted if there is any contagious illness.
  • Children with diarrhea will not be admitted; a complete shutdown of the pool will be necessary should a diarrhea accident occur and a fee will apply if a fecal contamination incident is caused by your sick child
  • Do Not send your child to class if they have an illness, or open sores.
  • Children who do not feel well during class will be sent home.

PAYMENT FAQ

  • Payment is due and processed on the 16th before classes start.
  • There will be a $25.00 late fee for non-payment on the 16th.
  • PhD Swim School reserves the right to refuse services and/or deactivate your Parent Portal Account if payment is not received.
  • We do not refund for missed classes for any reason.
  • Tuition and registration fees are non-refundable after the 1st of the month prior to the start of the session.
  • You must provide notice to cancel by the 1st of the month prior to your upcoming session to withdraw your child.

  • Any and all administrative or registration fees are non-refundable.

  • You enroll and enter your credit card via our Parent Portal.  
  • The administration team will process tuition on the 16th of the month prior to the start of the swim session.
  • Our Parent registration fee is $50 per Parent.
  • This fee is charged one time, not per year.
  • The registration fee will be processed on the 16th of the month before the start of the swim session.
  • SURVIVAL: 1:1 Instruction. (1 student and 1 instructor); REQUIRED for beginners
  • MAINTENANCE:  1:1 Instruction (1 student and 1 instructor).

POOL & INSTRUCTOR FAQ

  • We cannot guarantee a instructor and we will reserve the right to change instructors if necessary.

REGISTRATION FAQ

  • This is our #1 question asked by far. We have these openings but they are taken very quickly because they are what 90% of our clients want. We understand that you need these times due to work/school/naps.
  • New families may register and enroll  via the Parent Portal

Survival FAQ

  • All children will learn to attain and maintain a survival back float from any fall-in situation and wait until help arrives. 
  • Children walking (usually around 15 months and up) will learn to swim float swim short distances. 
  • Babies not yet walking, independent floating is the focus of the course.
  • 15 minutes 3 times a week for 7 weeks

Coach Katie Blalock

SENIOR INSTRUCTOR, DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS OPERATIONS

Katie B. is a former sprint triathlete and triathlete coach. She also has experience teaching fearful adult beginners how to swim. Katie is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She also has prior accounting and business administration experience with Raleigh Brewing Company and Charles & Colvard.

Katie has two boys herself and loves working with young children. She is a gifted teacher with special strengths in class organization, maintaining structure in a fun environment, and establishing a relationship of trust with her students. Katie has undergone over fifty hours of intense in-water and academic training to learn our method. She primarily manages all day-to-day business activities and is also an instructor. She currently teaches Survival, Kicks & Tricks, and, FUNdations.
