Teaching the science of swimming since 2003!

PHD SWIM SCHOOL

PhD Penguins Swim Team:
1:8 student:coach ratio
4.5 years and up

This is a non-competitive swim team designed to transition from the lesson format to the team format.  Swimmers must be able to swim 25 meters freestyle and backstroke.

Practices are 2x/week for one hour.  There are no attendance requirements.

Children will learn competitive stroke technique and swim team etiquette, terminology, lap counting, relays, and more!

Penguins Swim Team is for swimmers who have the maturity, interest level, and attention span to follow directions and focus on stroke technique for one hour.  We practice in the lap pool (81*F), and no coaches are in the water.

Survival Program:

1 student per class (Private/one-on-one)

Crawling infant through age eight

This class is designed to teach independent swimming and survival skills to toddlers and young children.

After being gently introduced to the water and learning to hold their breath, children will learn to float on their backs to rest and breathe in the event of an aquatic accident.

They will also learn to swim a short distance (depending on age) in between back floats to reach a safe destination.

Lessons are 15 minutes a day, one-on-one, three days per week.  To graduate from this program, children will complete a simulated drowning scenario fully clothed.

This class is required for all beginners.  We do not offer traditional swim lessons at PhD.

Kicks & Tricks:
2 students per class

Crawling infant through 36 months

Before enrolling in this weekly class, children are required to either complete the I Can Swim program or demonstrate their ability to attain and maintain a survival back float.

Lessons are thirty minutes long, once a week, with two students per class of similar age/ability.

Children will be introduced to the “fun” side of swimming while building prone swimming skills and improving body and head positions.

This is a play-based class suitable for our youngest students who need to strengthen their kick, maintain their survival skills, and prepare for FUN-dations.

FUN-Dations:
2 students per class
24 months through age 5

Before enrolling in this weekly class, children are required to either complete the I Can Swim program or demonstrate their ability to attain and maintain a survival back float and swim 5 feet unassisted

Lessons are thirty minutes long, once a week, with two students per class of similar age/ability.

Children will refine body and head positions, improve kick technique, and learn hand-lead swimming.

This is a play-based class suitable for Survival graduates who can swim-float-swim well and need to prepare to learn stroke development.

Beginning Stroke:

2 students  per class

3.5 years and up

Before enrolling in this weekly class, children are required to swim 15 meters independently with good kick technique and proper head/body position, and handle themselves in deep water.

Lessons are thirty minutes long, once a week, with two students per class of similar age/ability.

Children will learn freestyle with side breathing as well as backstroke.

This class is more focused on building proper stroke technique and swim team readiness and is suitable for the slightly older swimmer who is starting to outgrow FUN-dations but still wants to play!

Adults and Older Children:

Beginners age 9 and older and/or those who don't fit into

a category above

We will be happy to create a custom lesson schedule to suit your needs!

All of our beginner students will be taught the same swim-float-swim method that we teach younger students.

Older students can usually master these skills in fewer, 30-minute lessons attending fewer times per week.

More advanced swimmers who can handle themselves in deep water and swim at least 15 meters independently may schedule private or (pre-formed) sem-private lessons depending on their individual swimming goals.
